Foothills Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc 2016
Of all the wines in the range, the Sauvignon Blanc most reflects the cool growing conditions on the farm, with its brisk afternoon sea breezes. It combines minerality and fruit, with the minerality playing a more dominant role on the palate. The fruit is food-friendly, from the fresh spectrum, greengage and unripe prickly pear, with a subtle hint of apricot, while the 5% Semillon gives palate weight and length, without adding to Sauvignon’s flavours. The wine is dry, linear, has a flinty purity, and its salty acidity reinforces the food compatibility, gives a good ageing ability. read more »
Foothills Vineyards The Partners White 2016
Each part of this complex white blend has been carefully chosen for its contribution to the flavours, because this is the most popular wine in the range, has the widest appeal. In essence it is a white Bordeaux blend of Sauvignon Blanc for leafy freshness and Semillon for palate weight, with 12% Viognier added to lift the aromatics, give some floral notes and gentle tropical flavours. The light savoury element comes from lees contact. read more »
Foothills Vineyards Chardonnay 2016
The only wooded white in the range, offering something richer, a different spectrum of flavours. The perfume is a combination of stone fruit, preserved naartjie and hazelnuts, with an intriguing floral note of nasturtiums. It has a warm, ripe palate, without being showy, this is about flavour and balance, the oak giving good savoury length but allowing the fruit through for a fresh citrus finish. read more »
Foothills Vineyards Dry Rose 2016
Delicate pale salmon colour, in a flint bottle to show it off. Predominantly Shiraz, with a touch of Semillon and Viognier to add highlights, make it more interesting. Slightly unripe strawberries at core, a just-picked freshness yet underlying piquant red fruitiness, with Semillon adding subtle melon flavours, while Viognier, renowned for its aromatics, contributes floral notes. The palate is dry, with pebble stream freshness, some herbaceous hints, but finishes on the strawberry fruit. read more »
Foothills Pinot Noir 2015
Maiden release. Individual take on Pinot Noir, a character that comes from the vineyard. The initial fruit impression is intense, blueberries, vivid plum, with a buchu, almost minty note, settling down to raspberries later on the palate. This, coupled with sweet spice from 18 months oak maturation, creates a wine that is delicious to drink, but is an unconventional Pinot Noir. The structure is elegant, typical of the variety, the finish savoury dry for food pairing. read more »
Foothills Vineyards Syrah 2015
It has lots to offer, this is a complex wine. There’s tobacco leaf from the 12 months in barrel (10% new), to add to the maraschino cherry richness.
The secondary flavour spectrum is typical of the variety, dusty, earthy, white pepper, a touch of fynbos, more Old World, Rhône-like, than fruit-driven New World. A touch of Viognier lifts the perfume with gentle floral nuances.

Foothills Monogram Straw Wine 2014
A sweet wine from Viognier, the process has toned down its usual perfume-laden exuberance to give apricot and glace pineapple intensity, some beeswax, accompanied by a few honeysuckle floral notes. The body is sleek, luscious, with lovely texture and length, while the flavours are pure peach in syrup. read more »
